Throughout any given busy day, there are plenty of times when being laser-focused is necessary in order to get a specific task done.
With so many distractions, it can be hard to focus and you can quickly feel the pressure piling up.
It doesn’t need to be that way.
There are plenty of things you can do to stay calm in the middle of things in order to succeed at whatever it is you’re trying to do. Here are a few suggestions for how to stay calm:
1. Focus On Completing One Task At A Time
Handling multiple tasks simultaneously can be overwhelming and may lead to a lack of focus.
To avoid this, list the tasks you need to do and then choose one of them to complete. Finish it before moving on to the next.
This method not only helps you maintain focus but also ensures efficiency and effectiveness.
Before you know it, you’ll have the whole list complete.
In other words, ditch the multi-tasking!
2. Stop Procrastinating
Often, the pressure we experience is due to our own lack of action. Procrastination will only heighten your anxiety and stress levels. Now is NOT the time to put things off.
Instead, pick up the first task and get started.
You’ll find that as you begin to tackle your responsibilities, the pressure will start to ease.
3. Take Regular Breaks
It may seem counterintuitive to take breaks when you’re under pressure. You may feel that you should continue working until you’ve completed all your tasks.
However, without the occasional break to re-focus and decompress, you’ll start to feel overloaded and burnt out.
Go for a walk, meditate, or take 15 minutes to do something you enjoy.
These short breaks can significantly enhance your productivity and focus.
4. Slow Down and Breathe Deep
When you’re under pressure, your body releases stress hormones as part of your fight-or-flight mechanism.
The trick is to slow down and take deep breaths.
Deep breathing tells your body to stop emitting those hormones and helps you to calm down.
Concentrated breathing techniques not only help you to relax but also redirect your mind to those tasks you’re working on at the moment.
Taking a moment to breathe can be incredibly beneficial in maintaining focus under pressure.
Conclusion
So, to summarise:
Focus on ONE thing at a time
STOP procrastinating
Take REGULAR breaks
SLOW DOWN and BREATHE
